About Us

We’re a lettings agency jointly owned and run by the Students’ Unions of DMU and Leicester University. With an office based at each campus, we’re the number one site for students looking for private rented accommodation in Leicester. We are a unique organisation, a charity that was established with the aim of being different to the other lettings agencies in Leicester by offering a fair deal to tenants and landlords. As a non-profit organisation, all our surplus income is reinvested back into services for students.

The worst company I have ever dealt with. If you have the choice between using a cardboard box and this company, I promise you will get a better stay in your cardboard box. The staff are incompetent, the buildings are terrible (apart from the most expensive ones which are slightly better) and the whole company is an unorganised mess. I only hope they soon go out of business to spare future students the horrific experience that I and many others have gone through.

First off, they charge you in over £900 in September (before you even get your student finance) and £1157 in October (Even though you've just spent your finance on Septembers rent) so you're expected to save £900 of your own money before you start, but they don't tell you this, they just get you to sign on the dotted line. I was told I could set up a "reasonable" payment plan so I could pay monthly, I explained I get paid at the end of every month so they requested I pay at on the first of every month, this is clearly unreasonable when (like most people on this planet) I get paid at the end of the month and not at the start. Even trying to set this up took weeks! There is a very rude and nasty woman called Fatima who apparently manages the finances, she ignored my emails asking to set it up, I spoke to her over the phone and both times she was very short and rude to me, it took me asking Sulets direct to actually get a reply from her via email! She initially said on the phone the payment would go out in line with my work, but now it's the first of every month despite telling me it would go in line with my pay check, I'll have to pay £40+ in charges every month and risk letters being sent to my mother, even though I'm paying it! The people in the UoL Sulets area aren't much better, very little help and with a similar temprement as Fatima. My room is also very hot all the time because the radiator doesn't turn off, I've been told they might fix it "this year" they have one maintance person for every sight so it takes weeks to get anything done, my shower also fluctuates between hot and cold, again "nothing can be done" they seriously don't care unless it's about money. The shower handle snapped off and there's also apparently nothing they can do. Also, a small fridge and small freezer for 5 people!? These people seriously don't understand the definition of reasonable. If you go with this company, prepare to be told nothing can be done for every senario, even when it's their fault. Prepare for rude staff and God help you if you have to deal with Fatima! There are plenty of other nice accommodation companies, please look around and don't choose this one.

They're making life really difficult. Before I signed they were extremely nice and willing to transfer contracts to other sites when my potential room mate and I were looking into relocating to another Sulets accommodation. They said themselves it would be possible. However now that I've signed it's like they don't care anymore and "nothing can be done". Due to financial issues the original friend I was planning on moving in with won't be able to live in this accommodation so I asked to be moved to what would've been her room (bigger room) and even this is not possible according to them, despite that room being empty. Not being able to be changed to another room within the same flat simply because they're not bothered to do some paper work is disappointing. Be very careful with what is discussed verbally about what will be done because it doesn't always turn out that way clearly. Highlight: Newarke accommodation is near a Tinsel Town and the accommodation itself is nice enough.

I have rented from sulets 2 years in a row now. Simply because it is convenient with them being located in the SU. Staff are extremely friendly and seemingly very helpful in the branch. However actually getting something done is excruciatingly painful. The company apparently has ONE contractor that does ALL the work on ALL the properties so waiting for months to have a lock fixed is to be expected. I have had to send copious emails and have dozens of phone calls to get anything sorted, only to be told by the contractor that I "nag too fucking much" (considering we didn't have sofas for 5 months of our tenancy...) Not even having a burglary is enough to get anything done. Continually given dates and times that work will be done only for no one to show. As I say very helpful friendly staff in branch but just keep your fingers crossed nothing actually goes wrong with the property.
