One of the Worst, overpriced, disgusting places you will ever see

A complete joke for accommodation. The standards of this place are so bad you'll be better off living inside one of Crown Place's Bathrooms. Sure you get some nice people around, there's always people to talk to you but that's almost a problem in a way. The walls are paper thin, you can even hear the poop plopping in the toilets. Last week, the cleaner threw all our shampoos in the bins from the shower. The rooms are already trashed before you even move in, I'm pretty sure they make no effort to clean the rooms at all. You have to pay £300+ extra because you are 20 minutes away from the University so you HAVE to get the bus every day, and by the way, the scoucer bus drivers are NEVER friendly. I have given this place a try, I really have- but it really is THAT bad. I mean the cleaners don't give a dam about life itself. The rooms are pathetically small and have very little sound proofing. You basically ALWAYS have to have your window open because The ventilation is TERRIBLE, rooms get stuffy within minutes-I have never had to turn on my radiator. You can't sleep at night on many occasions because of noisy idiots coming back from pointless nights out absolutely smashed beyond belief- I suspect to try and escape the fact that they live in such a boring terrible place. We don't get ANY SINK OR MIRRORS in our rooms and yes have to pay the same as Rankin. Now Lets talk about the food. The food is outright awful. Catered here is just about the worst thing ever. You basically are paying £40 a week for a terrible preheated breakfast, that NEVER changes, just rock hard hashbrowns and premade eggs and sausage from a factory somewhere. The cereals are almost always stale, and yes they are the cheap Aldi knock-off ones not the nice original Kelloggs ones. I have come from a background of healthy eating so I guess maybe i am a little spoilt, so I mean, if you enjoy eating chips and fried **** every day for a year, then I'm not going to stop you! Also just a note if anyone from the staff team sees this. You are basically letting in 40% people who don't even live at carnatic. Asking to see a student card 10% of the time is not going to stop students from crown place coming in and getting a free meal. Just a thought. Ok I think I am just about done.... oh wait one more thing: the wifi here is a Joke too. Eduroam the wifi service is absolutely terrible for gaming, it constantly disconnects every 10 minutes and if you are lucky to have an ethernet in your room it still does the same. Ok that's all, please don't go here it is literally a living hell. Bye ;)

Overpriced and cramped accommodation

Whilst it was good to be on a site where there were many other students to make friends with, the day-to-day reality was that you were sharing 3 showers, 1 toilet and a small kitchen with 11 other people. I didn't even want to be in Carnatic Halls. Greenbank was what I had chosen as I wanted to to be in self-catering accommodation. The decor and furniture were old and aesthetically unappealing. It was like being in a boarding school. I had a ground floor room and at one point I had an ant infestation. The staff did nothing but just put a bit of ant powder down. Didn't bother to investigate where they were getting in from. I paid a fair amount of money for cramped, old, infested accomodation and poor quality food from the canteen. Was not the experience I wanted for my first year at Uni.

Pros: 1. Carnatic is a massive site so it was easy to meet lots of other students 2. There are great bus links to uni and the city centre. 3. Food was included as part of the rent price. Cons: 1. The building was very old and needed more maintenance. Often showers would break. 2. There were 3 showers between 12 people, so when these broke it made life difficult. 3. Although food was pre-paid and served to you, it was of a poor quality. Dinner was served very early in the evening so this made life difficult when I had late lectures/netball/other social events. In my last term, I think I only made it to dinner at Carnatic twice! I ended up spending a lot more money even though I had originally thought I would save it!
